NHL Approves Realignment




The NHL announced it has approved a realignment plan that will shift the league to four divisions beginning next season. The board of governors approved the move today that will send the Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings to the Eastern Conference and the Winnipeg Jets to the West.

The Sabres' division will include the Red Wings, , Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators.

The other East division has Columbus, Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, New York Rangers and New York Islanders

The two Western Conferences will include one with Winnipeg, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues

And the other with the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, Phoenix Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks

The divisions have not been named yet. The league will re-evaluate the divisions after the 2015-16 season.
