From the Locker Room: Sabres-Bruins

The Buffalo Sabres welcomed the Boston Bruins into KeyBank Center on Tuesday night as part of a miniature three-game homestand for the blue and gold. Buffalo was hoping this middle contest of the home tilt would bode better for them than the first, as a magical night for Jack Eichel was thwarted by a Jaccob Slavin overtime goal for the Carolina Hurricanes, thus dispatching Buffalo in yet another overtime affair; an unfortunate trend to this point in the season.

While this game avoided extra time, it did not make matters any better for Buffalo, as their offense beared no fruit on this night against Bruins' veteran netminder Anton Khudobin. The Boston Bruins came into town and defeated the Sabres by a final score of 3-0 as Boston's journeyman goalie turned away all 36 shots the Sabres slung his way en route to an impressive shutout effort in enemy territory.

Go inside the locker room to hear from Robin Lehner, Benoit Pouliot, Zach Bogosian and Phil Housley following the loss.

Robin Lehner:

On the first period: "We got pucks deep, we were playing fast. We did a lot of good things. We got a little bit of momentum there at the end of the [first] period that seemed to take us into the second."

On the DeBrusk goal: "He challenged our defense and he beats us both. It was a good shot. Players in this league are going to score once in awhile. That's one of them."

Benoit Pouliot:

On feeling like the team is wasting good goaltending:  "It's unfortunate because [Lehner] played an excellent game, he kept us in the game the whole time. For us to pay him back, we have to put some pucks in the net. We had our chances, it's just a matter of finishing."

On the team's improvement: "Lately our games have been better. At least that's a bit of a positive. We're still not getting the two points, though, which is something we need."

Zach Bogosian:

On the difference between periods one and two for the team: "Wouldn't really say our second period was very good for us. We have to stick to the gameplan and make sure that we keep pushing forward and making sure we're executing through the neutral zone. That killed us tonight."

On his fight: "You try to stick up for your teammates. It was a clean hit. I've always respected the way that [Kevan] Miller plays. I would expect that if I did that to one of his teammates, he would do the same. Those things belong in the game. He answered the bell; he's a willing combatant.

Phil Housley:

On what disappoints him the most: "Everytime we trend in the right direction, we get away from the things that we do well. In the first period, you saw it: the execution was there. The decisions were there. The simple game was there, and 'okay, we didn't score', but that's not a time now going into the second period where you change. You have to stick to the gameplan. Eventually you'll break through. It seems like sometimes we're taking things into our own hands. It just keeps coming back at us.

On Sam Reinhart's limited ice time, and where he can improve his game to improve his play: "I think he can play with more speed and get to the tough areas. Compete. Battle. Continue to work down below the dots in the offensive zone, because he's already really good there. He protects the puck well, but he has to get to those areas quicker."
