Gamenight: Sabres lead Senators 3-0 in second period

First Period

15:24 - It is eerily quiet here inside the seating bowl. I have to imagine many people stayed home due to the weather we have seen the past couple of days, and Ottawa on a Tuesday does not have the same appeal as it used to.

9:47 - Still nothing going on in the game. Shots on goal are 5-3 in favor of Buffalo, but neither team has had a real scoring chance despite up and down play at both ends.

3:58 - Evan Rodrigues was hit in the side of the head/helmet with a shot and went right off the ice. We will see if he is OK and if he returns to the game.

2:50 - Buffalo gets the first power play of the night as Mike Hoffman is called for slashing. Maybe the blue and gold can give the fans here something to get out of their seats about.

:35.9 - Rodrigues did indeed return after being stung by the puck, but Buffalo did absolutely nothing with their power play. They did not record a shot on goal, very disappointing.

Second Period

15:47 - SABRES GOAL. Benoit Pouliot does a good job to use his strength and speed to weave through the Senators defense and get the game's first goal. It was not blazing speed, but for a guy pushed onto Jack Eichel's line you need to be be able to move and he did just that. 1-0 BUF.

14:35 - SABRES GOAL. The next shift for the blue and gold also results in a goal thanks to a good team effort in the offensive zone. Ryan O'Reilly has been playing better as of late and his ability to keep the puck behind the Ottawa net lets Zemgus Girgensons get parked at the top of the crease and create the screen for Kyle Okposo to score. That was a good team effort. 2-0 BUF.

11:13 - The Senators have a chance to get back into the game with a 5-on-3 chance thanks to a Johan Larsson minor for high sticking after Pouliot went off for interference. Would be a huge kill for the team.

7:27 - SABRES GOAL. Buffalo did a really good job of moving the puck in the offensive zone on the power play, and it leads to Evander Kane's 14th goal of the season. If it is me, I am doing everything I can, shifting everything I can cap-wise to sign him to long-term deal instead of trading him at or around rhe trade deadline. 3-0 BUF
