Sabres lead the Blackhawks after 40 minutes

December 8, 2017
Categories:

Sabres look for back to back regulation wins for the first time all season against the Chicago Blackhawks. The team hasn't won in Chicago since the 2007 season, now would be a good time to do it. The Sabres sit 8 points behind the closest team in the Atlantic Division, Ottawa. Only the Sabres and Coyotes have yet to eclipse 20 points on the season, antother feat that could be accomplished tonight.

First Period:

12:47 - Both teams have taken a penalty, and both teams have each had their chances. Buffalo's best was a nice passing play between Jack Eichel and Evan Rodrigues, that resulted in a good chance by Rodrigues on the powerplay. This was his first opportunity of the season on the top unit.

10:03 - Sabres are having trouble entering the Chicago zone. Rodrigues on one occasion had a 3 on 2 developing with the puck, but entered the zone too slowly resulting in a turnover. Kyle Okposo did almost the same play just minutes later.

4:06 - Evan Rodrigues took his second penalty of the period, and it was a trip again. Tabbed as a smart player, Rodrigues can't be getting two penalties in a period if he wants to stick in the NHL. However, it is uncharacteristic of him.

0:30 - SABRES GOAL - Jack Eichel sets up Jason Pominville for a beautiful powerplay goal. The Sabres first powerplay goal in 10 games and 29 tries. They went into the 1st intermision up 1-0 despite being outshot by 8.

Second Period:

16:35 - Jack Eichel nearly had the Sabres up 2-0 when he flew into the slot to get a loose puck and fired it on net. Corey Crawford made a nice save, but Eichel has been very active in this game.

11:04 - BLACKHAWKS GOAL - After Victor Antipin took a holding penalty, Chicago had several grade A scoring chances on the powerplay. Finally they found the back of the net when rookie Alex DeBrincat fired a wrist shot past Lehner to tie the game at 1.

8:51 - SABRES GOAL - Scott Wilson got his first point as a Sabre, setting up Kyle Okposo who beat Crawford to the top corner, giving Buffalo the lead back.
