THE WHO To Release 'Live' Recording of "Tommy."

'Tommy Live @ The Royal Albert Hall' was recorded this past Spring.

August 18, 2017

If you were lucky enough to see THE WHO on their most recent U.S. jaunt, you know what an incredible performance the veteran English rockers turned in! Their concerts presented a great mix of some of the biggest hits of their career, with selections dating from their earliest days right up thru the present, including choice tunes from 2 of PETE TOWNSHEND's most monumental works, 'Tommy,' and 'Quadrophenia...'  But is is the former work, 'Tommy,' that is about to be spotlighted (once again!) in a just-announced 'live' release coming this Fall from THE WHO. Townshend's 'Rock Opera' was performed this past Spring at the Royal Albert Hall in London, marking the band's 100th performance on their current (50th Anniversary +) tour. As Messrs. Daltrey and Townshend have done frequently in the past, the performance of one of The Who's most celebrated works was for a charity benefit, in this case for Teenage Cancer Trust, which the 2 men co-organized. PETE TOWNSHEND recently told Rolling Stone Magazine that the idea to do all of Tommy was Roger Daltrey's, and that it would mark one of only a very few times that the work has been presented in its entirety. The original plan for the performance of Tommy was for it to be all played acoustically, but the plan was scrapped because, as Daltrey told the audience that night, "It would have taken about four weeks of rehearsals and the charity wouldn’t have made any money, so we thought ‘F— it." The new live set has a release date of Oct. 13th, and, as is the new norm, will be available in a number of different choices for the consumer-CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, Vinyl, and Digital. (Fans can pre-order the set here) The DVD and Blu-Ray will also offer some behind-the-scenes footage from the evening. The complete set list from 'Tommy-Live at The Royal Albert Hall' is below... Rock On!
