The Buffalo Sabres continue to trim their roster leading up to Thursday's regular season opener against the Montreal Canadiens at the KeyBank Center.

On Saturday, Buffalo trimmed the roster to 27 as the Sabres sent Justin Bailey, Nicolas Deslauriers and Taylor Fedun to the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League. Both Deslauriers and Fedun will be officially assigned to Rochester after clearing the 24-hour waivers period starting at noon on Saturday.

In addition, the Sabres have also released defenseman Cody Goloubef from his professional try-out.

After a very good performance at the Prospects Challenge, Bailey was one young player looking to make the Sabres' roster from the start of the 2017-18 season. In four games played this preseason, Bailey failed to register a point and put up only five shots on goal.

Deslauriers will likely head back to the AHL with the Amerks for the first time since the 2013-14 season. In parts of the last four seasons with the Sabres, Deslauriers scored 12 goals and registered 30 points in 211 games. Deslauriers still has one more year left on his current deal before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

As for Fedun, he returns to the AHL after spending about half of last season in the NHL and the other half in the AHL. With the Sabres, Fedun registered seven assists in 27 games. In Rochester, Fedun scored five goals and put up 23 points in 29 games played. It was much tougher for Fedun to make the roster this season with the addition of more NHL caliber defenseman this offseason. He will certainly be a welcomed addition to the Amerks blue line this season as last season took a turn for the worse on the blue line with Fedun and Justin Falk primarily in the NHL.

Goloubef was relatively unnoticeable in his three games of action this preseason. Goloubef finished with a plus-1 rating, three shots and a penalty in his short time with the Sabres. Buffalo signed Goloubef to his PTO on September 5th.

The Sabres roster is now set at 27 players (16 forwards, nine defensemen, two goaltenders) with four players left to be cut before Tuesday's 5 p.m. league-wide deadline to get rosters set at 23.
