Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - Phil Housley said that Evan Rodrigues has suffered a hand injury. The head coach didn’t know if it’s long or short term.

Jake McCabe also missed practice. Housley said, “Jake has an upper body injury, more maintenance. It’s more of a week-to-week right now.”

Housley doesn’t think it’ll keep him out for the opener, but he wasn’t sure.

Both Alex Nylander and Sean Malone have missed all of camp. Housley said, “They’re making some headway with their injuries. With Nylander every day he’s getting better, he’s feeling more comfortable. Sean has been skating, so that’s intriguing.”

Over the weekend, Brendan Guhle was sent to Rochester. The kid is only 19 and Housley said, “You could see from Prospects Camp to the main camp to the exhibition games, you could see the pace is getting faster and faster and I just felt he’s got to get more comfortable with himself.”

“We talked to him just about going down and developing, it’s not a bad thing, treat it with respect because it’s good hockey, so he just needs to improve in those areas of his game where he’s feeling comfortable, but you saw when he’s very decisive in his decisions, he’s a special player.”

In practice on Monday the team looked like this:

Girgensons - O’Reilly - Okposo

Kane - Eichel - Pominville

Pouliot - Reinhart - Griffith

Moulson - Larsson - Baptiste

Deslauriers - Josefson - Bailey

Scandella - Ristolainen

Beaulieu - Bogosian

Gorges - Antipin

Falk - Tennyson

Goloubef - Fedun

We were wondering of this is what we might see a week from Thursday. Housley said, “There’s still some opportunity for positions and I’m really happy to see Marco out there today to solidify or D corps, so I’m very comfortable, but we’re still going to try to fit people in different spots in these last two games.”

In the two games Evander Kane has played he has been one of the guys wearing an A on his sweater. Housley has liked what he’s seen so far, “I think he’s been a terrific pro, he’s has a very good attitude, he’s been working hard in practices and I respect his work ethic and he’s doing the right things to help the young guys.”

Justin Bailey and Nick Baptiste are still with the big club. Baptiste didn’t have a real good showing in the Prospects Tournament and had a slow start to training camp, but Housley is starting to see him improve, “Nick has had a little bit of a slow start, but he’s come on as of late and he’s got to continue to use his speed, use his body, get to the net and just do things a little quicker. He had an opportunity against Pittsburgh to get one right off quick, so we continue to evaluate.”
