The Buffalo Sabres welcomed the Ottawa Senators into KeyBank Center for Buffalo's first game of three in this upcoming week.  Thanks to a three-goal outburst in the second period and a crucial 5-on-3 penalty kill, the Sabres emerged victorious by a final score of 3-2

Go inside the locker room to hear from Benoit Pouliot, Kyle Okposo, Rasmus Ristolainen and Phil Housley after the win.

Benoit Pouliot:

On the effort: "I think we played both ends of the rink pretty well tonight. Lots of backchecks, lots of forechecks, and things went very well. Very positive for us."

On the shot mentality that blossomed between the first and second period: "Every game, that's a big part of our gameplan... putting pucks on net and getting it through, creating havoc in front of the net... we came back strong after [the tough first period] and we put a few [goals] in there."

Kyle Okposo:

On what the team is doing right, that they'd been lacking before: "I think we're sticking to our gameplan a little bit more. We're starting to make a few plays, and executing a little bit. I think we did a real good job with our middle guy on the ice. We hit him a couple times, especially in that second period and we were able to get some speed. We were then able to generate some chances that way."

On what the team's 5-on-3 penalty kill did for the morale: "That's a huge kill for us. Our penalty kill has been pretty good all year, pretty steady. That one was a big momentum shift; we kept the momentum in our favor from that. Those guys did a great job."

Rasmus Ristolainen:

On the 5-on-3 penalty kill and how he, Scott Wilson, and Zemgus Girgenson were able to kill it: "Huge blocks there, good saves from [Robin] Lehner, and wherever they passed the puck, we were in the right spot. It was a huge kill for us."

On fans cheering after the second period, something the team has not heard in awhile: "I mean, no here is happy if we're losing, and the start of the year has been tough. So, it's nice that the fans are still here supporting us. It felt great."

Phil Housley:

On the overall strong play of the team: "I thought we had a really good start to the game. We didn't have a shot mentality, but I think it was overall solid effort by our group. You look at the first period, I thought [Johan] Larsson's line provided some really good energy for us with some physical play and being on the forecheck. Our special teams did a heck of a job tonight, especially killing that 5-on-3... then we get that all-important powerplay goal in the second which becomes the winning goal. It's a great job in that regard and Robin had another solid night. He was our best penalty killer tonight."

On the powerplay units sticking to it, remaining persistent: "Early on in the first period, I give [a hand] to our powerplay guys because you're going through that again, where you can't get in the zone, and you have to just remain patient. [Then] you win a faceoff, and now you can execute some really good movement out there. They stuck with it, and that shows some good mental toughness on their part. Sometimes when it goes that way, you can go in a different direction. I give a hand to them that they stuck with it."
