From the Locker Room: Sabres-Devils

The Buffalo Sabres welcomed the New Jersey Devils into KeyBank Center on Tuesday night. Tonight marked the first game of NHL-action for clubs since the All Star Break, and the Sabres were looking to buck a frustrating home trend here in the second half.

Unfortunately for Buffalo, the trend would have to be bucked on another night in Western New York. Backup goalie Keith Kinkaid and the Devils spoiled the evening for the Sabres, beating the blue and gold by a final score of 3-1.

Go inside the locker room to hear from Jake McCabe, Jack Eichel, Ryan O'Reilly and Phil Housley following the loss.

Jake McCabe:

New Jersey got in the way: "I think they are a very good shot blocking team, we need to do a better job of getting pucks and bodies to the net."

Frustrating that the road results don't translate at home: "It's tough. We want to bring that hockey that we showed that we can play out west to this arena for our fans [to see]. You guys saw that we can play that way, and we see it too. We need to bring that for our fans and for this city."

Jack Eichel:

On the hometown blues: "We have a lot of home games coming up here, you want to put on a good show; it's unfortunate, though, and it's something we need to get better at."

Pressure to perform: "Maybe we are looser on the road. Maybe we feel a little more pressure to perform here, especially when things aren't going well. Obviously you're at home and you want to play well in front of your fans... We've had good games here at home, and we've had bad ones. It's something we need to work on. I think we have 19 home games left this year. Plenty of time to work on how to make this a better environment and a tough place to play in for opposing teams."

Ryan O'Reilly:

Home vs. Road: "That road trip... we were very loose and we just started with a fresh mindset. We had a job to do, and did it. Now we're home and overthinking things, we're waiting for the game to happen."

Creating traffic: "We have to get in front of [the goalie on a given night] and be a little heavier. On the road, I don't want to say it happens easier but it's just one of those things that we seem to do a bit better away from home."

Phil Housley:

Taste of our own medicine: "Coming off the road trip, you would've thought that we had gained confidence and been sharp. I don't think we realized the checking that they did, we did on the West Coast trip. We were playing more on our toes... we weren't quick to close on our zone... we gave them too much freedom."

Where'd the macho go?: "I would think that they would have had confidence coming off the road trip; build off that, and realize what it took to win three games and not give up an even-strength goal."
