First Period

15:22 - There might not be a whole heck of a lot of shots on goal so far, but I like the way Detroit moves the puck so well in all zones. They are cycling the puck well early, and it allows them to setup in the offensive zone for good scoring chances. Shots are already 5-2 in favor of the visitors.

11:57 - Dylan Larkin is headed to the penalty box for slashing. The penalty is a result of some good puck possession for Buffalo, maybe their first real sustained possession of the game.

9:44 - If I wanted to insert a gif to this game blog I would roll with the old Home Alone "woof" gif. The Sabres power play was abysmal again tonight, turning the puck over and giving Detroit the better of the scoring chances. It did not start off well as Luke Glendening was able to get past Victor Anitpin and get off a shot on goal at the start of the penalty kill. The Red Wings outshot Buffalo 2-0, despite being down a man for those two minutes.

8:03 - It appears that the Sabres have awoken from their early game haze, getting off several scoring chances over the last minute. Jimmy Howard has had to make a few good saves, while a couple Buffalo shots have gone wide of the net. It really begs the question as to why it takes ten minutes or so for the team to find its legs.

1:01 - Buffalo has clawed their way back in the shots on goal category after being dominated early by the visitors. It is now 10-10, and the chances are thoroughly in Buffalo's favor over the last eight minutes.

Second Period

17:00 - Buffalo's first good scoring chance of the second period is courtesy of Johan Larsson as he put the puck on net during a 2-on-1 chance. The good thing is that he hit the net. It feels like that is half of the battle for this team.

15:13 - It is deja vu all over again, as Larkin is called for slashing to send Buffalo to the power play. We'll see if the second go 'round is any better than the first. Could not be much worse than the first.

10:06 - SABRES GOAL. Benoit Pouliot scores his second goal in as many games, this time sneaking the puck into the far corner of the net. It may have even gone off of Jimmy Howard on the way in, and gives Buffalo the first goal of the night. The game had been building to this point with the team controlling much of the play. 1-0 BUF.
