Borinquen Dance Theatre will mark its 31st year of changing lives through dance and cultural arts education with a special event fundraiser to be held 7 p.m. June 2 at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. This year's showcase -- “Faces of El Caribe” – will feature live performances from the company's junior, intermediate and senior members. The program will highlight dances that represent the Borinquen Dance Theatre's foundation of African, Taino Arawak Native, and Spanish influences - blending Puerto Rican folkloric dance and Latin contemporary pieces. Nydia Padilla-Rodriguez, founder and creative director, has also choreographed a dance to honor her own mentor, Garth Fagan. Tickets for the June 2 event are available for the 7 p.m. live performance and silent auction as well as for a special VIP reception preceding the performance.
Keeping Pace with AIDS is a walk/run/ride to benefit AIDS Care. The event includes a 5K walk, 5K run, 50- and 20-mile bike rides, and Paws for the Cause, where owners can walk with their dogs. The event will take place Sunday, June 3, 2012 at The Roundhouse at Genesee Valley Park. The proceeds raised from Keeping Pace with AIDS benefit AIDS Care’s diverse range of services, programs, and much-needed medical care for those living with HIV/AIDS.

Gem Fest is the annual show for the Wayne County Gem & Mineral Club. With an emphasis on collecting, fun & learning we have a field trip on Sunday to Alasa Farm for fossils, free hands-on activities daily such as gem tree making, wirewrapping and soapstone carving in addition to vendors who have jewelry, fossils, minerals & more. The Club has a sluice and will help identify your treasure after you separate it from the sand. UV Bob will present his Ultraviolet Show free of charge daily.
